The Netherlands enter their final Group F fixture knowing that victory against Tunisia could be enough to secure first place in the standings. Ronald Koeman’s side approach the match with their fate partly in their own hands, although events elsewhere in the group will ultimately determine the final order.

While the Dutch prepare for their meeting with Tunisia in Kansas City, attention also falls on the other decisive Group F encounter between Japan and Sweden taking place in Arlington. The outcome of that contest could prove crucial in deciding who advances as group winners.

Despite the importance of the simultaneous fixture, Koeman has stressed that his players must remain fully concentrated on their own assignment.

According to the Dutch manager, the priority is simply winning the match. Although finishing first in the group would be welcomed, he emphasized that the immediate focus must remain on the performance against Tunisia rather than outside results.

Group F Still Open at the Top

After two matches, both the Netherlands and Japan sit level on four points. The two teams also share an identical goal difference following their 2-2 draw earlier in the tournament, leaving the battle for first place unresolved heading into the final round.

Current Group F standings:

Position Team Played Goal Difference Points
1 Netherlands 2 +4 4
2 Japan 2 +4 4
3 Sweden 2 0 3
4 Tunisia 2 -8 0

The Dutch are considered strong favorites against a Tunisia side that has already been eliminated after suffering heavy defeats in its opening two matches.

Tunisia Looking for Pride

Tunisia’s campaign has been one of the tournament’s biggest disappointments. Consecutive defeats against Sweden and Japan resulted in nine goals conceded, leaving the North African nation without a point.

The disappointing run also led to a managerial change. Sabri Lamouchi departed after the 5-1 loss to Sweden, with veteran coach Hervé Renard brought in to stabilize the team. However, his first match in charge ended in a 4-0 defeat to Japan, confirming Tunisia’s elimination.

Renard has now challenged his players to end the competition with dignity and deliver a performance that restores some pride.

The French coach stated that football demands pride even in difficult moments and insisted his players must face the situation honorably until the tournament concludes.

Koeman Keeps Strong Lineup

Even with qualification already within reach, Koeman has selected an experienced and competitive starting lineup.

Netherlands Starting XI

Bart Verbruggen starts in goal behind a defensive line consisting of Denzel Dumfries, Jan Paul van Hecke, Virgil van Dijk, and Nathan Aké.

In midfield, Ryan Gravenberch joins Frenkie de Jong and Tijjani Reijnders, while Donyell Malen, Brian Brobbey, and Cody Gakpo lead the attack.

The Dutch substitutes include Mark Flekken, Justin Kluivert, Memphis Depay, Wout Weghorst, Micky van de Ven, Teun Koopmeiners, Noa Lang, and Jorrel Hato.

Tunisia Make Several Changes

Renard has opted to rotate his squad for Tunisia’s final appearance at the tournament.

Aymen Dahmen starts in goal, protected by a defense featuring Mohamed Valery, Montassar Talbi, Ali Abdi, and Hamza Ben Hmida. Ellyes Skhiri captains the side alongside Ferjani Sassi Khedira in midfield.

Anis Ben Slimane, Hannibal Mejbri, and Mohamed Gharbi provide support behind forward Hazem Mastouri.

The Tunisian bench includes players such as Achraf Rekik, Dylan Bronn, Elias Achouri, Haythem Jouini, and Bilel Chaouat.

Mexican referee Katia García has been appointed to officiate the match.

Brobbey Emerging as Key Figure

One of the major talking points surrounding the Netherlands is the recent impact of Brian Brobbey. The striker delivered an impressive performance in the previous match against Sweden, scoring twice and providing a strong physical presence in attack.

His ability to occupy defenders and create space for teammates has given the Dutch frontline a different dimension. After the Netherlands scored five goals against Sweden, Koeman may have found the ideal attacking balance heading into the knockout rounds.

Brobbey’s performance against Sweden highlighted both his finishing ability and his contribution to the overall team play, making him one of the players to watch against Tunisia.

Dutch Chasing Another Record

The Netherlands arrive carrying the longest unbeaten sequence in World Cup history, currently standing at 14 matches without defeat. Extending that run would not only strengthen their chances of topping Group F but also further underline their consistency on football’s biggest stage.

Tunisia, meanwhile, simply hope to leave Kansas City with a display that offers their supporters a positive memory after a difficult tournament.

For the Dutch, the objective is clear: secure victory and wait to discover whether it is enough to finish at the summit of Group F.
