Manchester United are considering a move for Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly after the 19-year-old was offered to the club as a possible solution at left-back.

Arsenal are understood to be looking to recover part of the £75m they spent on Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães, and Lewis-Skelly has emerged as one player who could help generate a significant return. His potential transfer is expected to command a fee of around £45m.

Chelsea have also been informed that the England youngster could be available. Lewis-Skelly played a role in Arsenal’s Premier League title success under Mikel Arteta last season, although it remains uncertain whether Chelsea will pursue a deal.

The teenager’s involvement during the 2025-26 campaign was relatively limited compared with his overall standing at the club. He made just five Premier League starts and appeared 36 times across all competitions. Despite that, Arsenal rewarded him with a new five-year contract last summer.

United Assess Their Left-Back Options

A move for Lewis-Skelly would fall within the spending range Manchester United have already operated in during the current transfer window.

United have completed the £35m signing of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, while Andrey Santos joined from Chelsea for an initial £48m, with a further £2m potentially due in add-ons. The club are now considering whether Lewis-Skelly should become their next major investment.

The Arsenal defender is not the only candidate under consideration. Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall continues to attract strong interest from United, but his availability is far from straightforward.

Newcastle have already seen Guimarães leave, while Sandro Tonali has moved to Tottenham and Anthony Gordon has joined Barcelona. New manager Matthias Jaissle is therefore determined to prevent another key player from departing, with Hall’s future now an important part of that stance.

RB Leipzig defender David Raum is another option United could examine. The 28-year-old German operates in the same position and remains among the players who could enter the club’s assessment.

Chelsea Face Defensive Vacancy

Chelsea have already committed more than £300m to recruitment during a hectic summer transfer window.

The London club have strengthened different areas of their back line, bringing in Maxence Lacroix to add depth at centre-back and Marco Palestra to reinforce the right side of the defence. They have also completed a club-record deal for Morgan Rogers, paying £117m for the forward.

However, the situation on the opposite flank has changed following Marc Cucurella’s £52m transfer to Real Madrid.

Jorrel Hato, 20, had served as Cucurella’s understudy at left-back and has represented the Netherlands at the World Cup. Chelsea must now determine whether their existing options are sufficient or whether another player, potentially Lewis-Skelly, should be brought in.

Mount Misses United Training

Meanwhile, Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has missed training on Monday and Tuesday at the club’s summer camp in County Kildare.

The 27-year-old picked up a knock to his foot during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg. His absence is understood to be precautionary rather than a sign of a serious problem.

Mount is also expected to miss Wednesday’s penultimate friendly against Leeds at Croke Park. The match at the 81,300-capacity stadium has already sold out.

United will conclude their pre-season preparations against Milan in Wroclaw on Saturday. That fixture will be their final warm-up before Michael Carrick’s side begin their season away to Hull the following Saturday.
